Well it's already the last week in March and I'm not where I'd like to be with my fitness. Main reason: the stupid weather! 2011 is shaping up to be one of the wettest in a long time. Usually by this time I have several 20+ mile runs and a few century rides in.
I've been able to get up to 15 miles running, but my longest ride has only been 54 miles. My resolve to do a Ironman triathlon this spring is weakening. I've stayed active. Been skiing a few times, have been swimming 1-2 times a week, and usually running 3-4 times a week, but not as much cycling as I'd like.
Which leads me to this conclusion: You have to be flexible with your goals. Determine what is really important and see if it fits into your lifestyle. Will your soldiering on have a detrimental affect on your family, health, job?
If so, take a step back, evaluate, consider your priorities and if needed make a new plan.
I'm hoping the weather will be more cooperative in the coming months. If not, I may change my goals to fit my circumstances a bit. One thing's for sure, being active, fit and enjoying challenging and exciting activities make for a more interesting life!
